As mentioned, this past November we signed a lease for our first ever studio space.   Of course, we are very excited.  And of COURSE, I am driving myself crazy (not to mention, wasting valuable time) trying to decide on which canvases I'd like to have printed for our walls.

Late last week I consulted with some friends and colleagues to get their two cents on which they thought would look best.  I gave them NINE options.  And so, I have narrowed it down further to three and thought it would be fun to take to the blog to get our readers to weigh in.

Below are the three options, including a mock-up with what the images will look like on the actual wallls (please don't judge me for my half eaten lunch and starbucks on the coffee table!).  Now, go cast your vote by leaving a comment with your favorite - #1, #2 or #3!

Thanks in advance, friends....I SO appreciate it!  :)

#1 - NUMBER ONE!

#2 - NUMBER TWO!

#3 - NUMBER THREE!

heather says:

LOVE number 3, as the colors seem to blend with your furniture, lighting and decor better than the others (in my mind), but if you are going for a splash of color - than # 2 is the way to go!

(01.16.12 @ 01:05 PM)
Trinette says:

I love #2 - the tree adds a lot of color and a natural element. It shows your range much more - from modern/urban to a more rustic/country look. You do it all - so I think you should show it all! :) Best of luck on this exciting new venture!!

(01.16.12 @ 01:18 PM)
Becky says:

Out of these 3 as they sit. #1 looks the prettiest and they meld together in the space the nicest, IMO! That said, if you replaced the 1st pic in #3 and added something with darker tones....that would look super nice too. I think the darker pics are a nice contrast with the walls and furniture.

(01.16.12 @ 01:20 PM)
Erika Melson says:

Love #3!!! :)

Rae says:

#3, definitely!

(01.16.12 @ 01:54 PM)
Kristen Cone says:

I think I like 3 :) but maybe switch the vertical on the right (barn) with vertical on the right from the first option (clouds) . OR maybe you can lighten the one with the barn so its not so dark? On option 3, the left side is lighter while the right side is darker. Need some contrast on the right side!

(01.16.12 @ 01:57 PM)
Mary Sheedy says:

#3, I LOVE #3. The space looks super, and I think I want to spend the rest of my life on that couch!

Heather Carroll says:

#3 :) Love the colors

(01.16.12 @ 02:25 PM)
Sarah Bradley says:

I love #1! I think it just flows from left to right, how the eye naturally goes and no color is jarring. Each side has complimentary colors so your eye isn't immediately drawn to one side but rather the whole wall. Beautiful! I can't wait to see more of the space.

(01.16.12 @ 02:33 PM)
Paige Jones says:

I see a lot of 2's and 3's in the comments...but I think #1 shows of your style best, with the negative space, and the dreamy sunlight :)))

(01.16.12 @ 02:33 PM)

(01.16.12 @ 03:13 PM)
I'm Kristen says:

Obviously they are all beautiful. And I may like certain pictures in sets two and three better,

BUT,

set one looks like a concentration in art school, or a display piece in an art gallery. The four images are not just gorgeous on their own but they also just look SO sharp and inspiring as a set! Plus, it looks like your company, your brand. The first one seems the most "The Schultzes" to me. But that's just me ;)

(01.16.12 @ 03:16 PM)
Leah Anderson says:

I like #1 as a set the best. But I have to say I LOVE the tree in the second set. It is glorious.

(01.16.12 @ 03:28 PM)
Kelli Sheeler says:

#1 …. they all look beautiful but that is my pick!

I vote for #1!

(01.16.12 @ 08:41 PM)
Maryann and Ed says:

#3 because our opinion matters most. :) Seriously, #3 because the colors in those photos blend well in the space. #1 would be our second choice. The tree photo in #2 is gorgeous, but it sticks out like a sore thumb in the layout. Loves and good luck! So proud of y'all.

(01.16.12 @ 08:46 PM)
Lynn says:

I like #1 because it seems the most visually balanced w/ the photographs. Overall, very nice and enjoy each one so you'll be a winner no matter what!

Love number one and the new space!

#2 or #3!

(01.16.12 @ 09:28 PM)
Kelly Schultz says:

# 3!!!! I think it shows the best range. You've got color, you've got texture, you've got intimacy, you've got open spaces. I think it best shows the variety, your range, and how you like to play with light, texture, space, etc. while also highlighting each individual's personality.

Brittany says:

#3 is my favorite!!

(01.17.12 @ 12:17 AM)
Carly Brantmeyer says:

Definitely #2, followed by #1. I felt the strongest emotions tied to it, such a beautiful way to bring in the outdoors. #1 is nice, but softer and does feel the most symmetrically balanced. #3 feels a little dark heavy on the right side's arrangement. But whatever you select, it will undoubtedly look stunning :) Thanks again for today, Cheyenne!!

(01.17.12 @ 01:12 AM)
nora says:

#2!

(01.17.12 @ 02:05 AM)
Julie Rae says:

#1 Its current and all four coordinate beautifully. When I think of your work, I always think of how sunny, natural and easy it is. I think these show that well. I can imagine how hard it must be for you to pick between your shots when everything you do is so good :)

I am a fan of # 3 especially for a studio because i think on either side of the window it shows two different styles you are able to achieve. Your work can be light and whimsical like the left but also very rich in color like the right side! Good luck, it looks beautiful!

The last time I was tested - per the book "The Five Love Languages" - I scored highest marks in the language of gifts....meaning, I feel the most loved when I receive a gift.  Now wait a second - I'm not talking about needing Geoff to buy me a lot of expensive things in order to know that he loves me.  Because really, I would know that he loves me (a lot) even if he never bought me another gift again.  However, when he thinks to get me a little something (read: a piece of chocolate...or a little bottle of my special shampoo....or yes, even a Starbucks) when he's out on an errand or out of town on a trip....I admit...my heart does feel a little extra something.  :)

It's only natural that I would, in turn, try to express my love through gift giving.  Although, through the years, I've come to learn that Geoff - while he might appreciate a trinket that I would pick up for him while out at Target...just because - he doesn't feel the same thing that I might if the roles were reversed...that's not his love language.  And so, I've got to get my fulfillment of gift giving through my business.

Each winter holiday season, we send out a little something to our past year and upcoming year clients....just to let them know we are thinking of them.

This year, I got a little crafty.  For our 2012 wedding clients, we sent out cute hot chocolate kits and monogrammed mugs from Anthropologie.  I am MOST proud of my heart cut-out marshmallows!  I found the idea on pinterest, of course.  I about screamed in the aisle at the store when I found the cute little heart cookie cutter!

xmas2011marsh_2.jpgxmascups2011.jpg
And of our 2011 wedding clients, to celebrate their first married Christmas together, we thought a framed ornament with a wedding picture would be perfect.  :)  And, for our Jewish bride and groom - it could still double as a frame to display somewhere in their home.  The frames are handmade from The Carving Tree.

As I promised I would share, here is our 2011 holiday card.  :)

Yup - it's that time of year again.  Recap the year time.  :)

I always love writing these.  It's so fun for me to look back at the past year (and even years past this one - here is 2008 Recap, 2009 Recap, 2010 Recap) to see all that we've done.

Here we go....2011.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

1.  Family/Marriage  It's been a really great year.  As mentioned in our Christmas card (which I have yet to blog), we've had our ups and downs in 2011....but mostly, it's been chock-full of great times.

New House.  In February we were able to move into the neighborhood that we had dreamed about since getting married.  It is a temporary move, as the schools aren't great...but for now, we are loving the old trees, cute houses, and the fact that we are in walking distance to a Starbucks.  :)

Recapmovingfinal.jpg
A Nanny for Boone.  As winter of 2010 was coming to a close....and as wedding season 2011 got closer....we were becoming more and more anxious about what we were going to do about a caretaker for Boone.  And of course, God provided.  Our dear friend Laci stepped in to nanny for our sweet boy - we couldn't have been happier or more at peace that she would be the one to be with him when we couldn't.  Boone loves her, as do we.  Always will.

BoonewithLaci-5.jpg
Boone Turns One.  Goodness gracious, did the first year fly by!  It is so fun to see him constantly learning and doing new things...but it also breaks my heart that my little baby is turning into a big boy.  Here's the video that Geoff created for his first birthday.

Us.  We'll always make it a priority to have our pictures taken.  This year, we had them taken four times!

Our circus themed shoot with Sassyfras Studios

A shoot to support our friends Kristin and Aaron Byrum for their upcoming mission trip:

And a shoot with the amazing Jenna of Red, White and Green Photography that won't be debuted for awhile longer.

2.  Business

InAction2011Recap.jpg
Weddings.  In 2011 we shot 25 weddings.  This was our first full year trying to figure out how to be great parents and great photographers.  Man, that was hard.

2011Clients.jpg
Babies/maternity.  I also shot quite a few maternity and newborn sessions this past year.  Shooting weddings is still where my heart and love is, but it's been fun to venture a little bit into the land of baby photography.

DyceNewbornPics_0003.jpg
Studio.  I don't know that I ever officially/loudly expressed that we had signed a lease on our first studio space...so I'll do it now.  Yes!  We are in the process of moving our home office into our adorable new space.  Once it is complete, I will certainly be posting pictures.  :)

StudioSpaceRecap.jpg
Intern.  We selected our 2nd-ever intern - Lindsay - to hang with us for a few months this winter.  She has been invaluable.

Lindsayyearrecap.jpg

Education.  In a semi last minute decision, I signed up for the Our Labor of Love/Max Wanger Feet First Workshop.  It was just what I needed.  Highly recommend.

Published.  We were honored to have been published in the following magazines and blogs:

3.  Travel  In 2011 we made it to Charleston twice (both times to shoot weddings), California (to visit my family and celebrate my 30th birthday), Savannah (our annual trip), Greenville (for a quick weekend getaway) and Asheville.

4.  Elevation Church  Another great year.  Geoff hit his three year mark working full time for the church in September and I have had a blast serving on the photography team.  We are so blessed to be a part.

Brilliant 1st year video! There are many talented people in this world, but there are a few among them who still manage to stand out for their exceptionalism. Looking forward to seeing you two exceptional artists in June.

Good morning!

I've been in Atlanta, GA for the past few days attending the Feet First/Blogshop workshop.  I actually didn't come across the workshop until just a couple of weeks ago and was hesitant as to whether or not I should go given how crazy busy things this time of year is.  And now, 2 days in, I am SO glad I did this.  At a time that we are teetering on burnout, as well as are on the cusp of some major growth/changes for our business, making time to attend this workshop was the best thing I could have done.  I am leaving feeling refreshed, inspired and excited to implement some great new things as things slow down this winter.

Soon I'll be sharing a few more images that I shot while here, but for now, here's one.  :)

I will say, as great as this experience has been, I can't WAIT to head home today to see my husband and my baby!!  :)
